Wormtown Brewery goes 2 for 2 with limited release stouts Norm and Sweet Tat’s

img_pintglass I’m not typically a Stout drinker. In fact, I’d be hard pressed to name more than a handful of beers I enjoy that aren’t in some way a hop bomb. Needless to say I was quite surprised to find two locally that are extremely tasty. Both are recent limited release Oatmeal Stouts from local Worcester Massachusetts brewery, Wormtown. A big fan of their single IPA Be Hoppy and their DIPA Hopulence, I make sure to try all of their year-round, seasonal and limited offerings, as most are real gems.

The first of the pair is called Norm. It’s a CHOCOLATE! and COCONUT! stout. This is no joke and I absolutely love it. The flavors are big, intense and unforgiving as they fairly subdue the more beer-like aspects of the brew. Reminds me a bit of a Mounds candy bar. The mouthfeel is fairly creamy with the added illusion of suspended coconut particles brought on by the texture and intense flavors. This was released in October 2013 and has sold out, meaning you are unlikely to find any in the cooler. Luckily, rumor has it more will be released in December.

The second Stout of note is called Sweet Tat’s. This is the best Breakfast Stout I’ve tried. The aroma and flavor are packed with notes of coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Just the right level of creaminess paired with a liberal and very enjoyable sweetness. As with Norm, the flavors of the bitter malts have been intentionally downplayed and overpowered by the delicious adjuncts. This is freshly bottled and in stores now as I write this… go… now before they are gone!

Wormtown has a great habit of constantly releasing fresh batches of their beer. The limited releases are an added bonus to a plump cycle of freshies that solidifies their place as my favorite local brewery and a force to be reckoned with in the national craft market. If you’re not a native of central Massachusetts or aren’t close enough to their market to find their brew in your local bottle shop…move! Or just ask for it, maybe it’s headed your way next.
